The Busy Mason
This summer has been fun, and my suit is a little tight, too many hot dogs, burgers, and adult beverages with Brothers and friends I’m sure. It’s time to blow the dust off the ritual, and set to work on making this Masonic year a year to remember!
So this is going to be a bit about my self. I tend to write my thoughts about Masonry, and it’s impacts on life at large, and maybe a little bit about how, we as Masons, should contribute, think, and share with others. I’m new to this world of Freemasonry. When I stepped in, I learned that Blue Lodge is just the tip of the iceberg. Tonight, I stepped into the world of Scottish Rite Masonry. I’m excited. I’m venturing deep into the iceberg, and letting what should be icy waters, warm my soul. Three other adventures await me. I will be installed as an officer in my Lodge, Junior Deacon. Following my mentor who will become the Senior Deacon we have created a friendship that we both never knew could exist, if not for the fraternity itself. I’ve been installed as the Associate Bethel Guardian of our local Job’s Daughters Bethel, of which my daughter is part of. Not only do I get to spend more time with my daughter, but I get to help other young women become fierce contenders amongst this world that demands the attention to detail and grace of a kind hearted woman that only a ‘Jobie’ can provide. Finally, I’m an Advisor for DeMolay, and yes, my son, is part of that as well, and just like my daughter, I get to spend time with him, and help him, and other boys become the men among men who will work with their Jobie counterparts to help make sure that this world is one of peace, harmony, and balance.
So why did I do all this? Well, part of it is that I didn’t head the words of my Worshipful Master, and learn to say “No thank you.” Which, I’ve learned is the ‘ultimate Masonic word’ that every Mason must learn to use throughout their life. Truthfully, I want to be challenged. When I petitioned for the Degrees, I was told that there was going to be some additional education in addition to my traditional degree work, I told my Worshipful Master; “Bring it.” I loved every minute of those challenges to become more enlightened in the craft, and spreading my education to other Masons in my Lodge on my nights of presentation. Those after me that are doing that same, they are blowing it out of the water, and I couldn’t be happier for them.
I paved the way for a better Mason. I and those following directly behind me are responsible for making better Masons in our district, and I’m proud of that challenge.
My degree work is done in Blue lodge, and I’m still hungry for more, and now that I’m more skilled than I was before, I wanted to teach others. Who better to teach than those in their youth, the future Masons, and OES men and women. I want the Masonic family to grow and thrive long into my golden years. So, I decided to step up and help the kids. Not only are they our future, BUT they are our Masonic future.
That’s why I’m The Busy Mason, my working tools are not just for crafting my own body and soul, but the world around me.
