The kids are back in school, there is a crisp breeze in the air (depending on where you live) and the leaves are starting to turn. Some coffee shops are selling pumpkin this, and pumpkin that. But something more important is happening…
Masonry is coming alive again in most of the United States. Several Lodges around the country go dark for the summer giving it’s members a much needed break from green beans and degrees. That doesn’t mean that Masonry stops though. Lodge officers moving through the line start (or should start) working on their next set of lines for opening Lodge and if they confer degrees, working on their next parts that they will be doing as more and more men enter the Lodge as new members.
Fall time is when we start seeing Installations, weather it be from DeMolay or OES, everyone is getting a new spot.
What does this all mean for someone who is not a member, or is a supporting member of a Lodge member?
For those that are looking to join, it means get out there, shake some hands, get to know the people of the Lodge you want to petition. Have coffee, or a cold drink with them. Learn more about what it means to be a Mason. Ask interesting questions of the Brothers.
For those supporting members of Brothers in the Lodges. Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart in the way that you let us go for a few hours a night and let us play in the ‘tree house’ let us be men, and focus on making each other better in one way or another. If it wasn’t for the families that we have that support us, we wouldn’t have been able to knock on the door of Masonry, and it even if we tried, it might not have been opened to us. Thank you for all the times you will make sure our suits are ready, fix our ties, and Aprons. Thank for the reminders that we have degrees, and waiting for us to get home. While Masonry makes a good man better, it makes a good family better too.
Fall is for Masonry, because it’s the time that we get to fall back into love with our Craft, our Brothers, and those that support us throughout the Masonic year. From Cargo shorts, and flip flops to suits and bowties, we fall back into Masonry because it embraces us as we trust it to guide us.
